It was 7 years ago today that the Washington Capitals signed goaltender Matthew Yeats as a free agent (hockeygoalies.org) and assigned goalie Maxime Ouellet to Portland of the AHL.
Do you think the team's goaltending situation has changed at all in that time? And how come we haven't always been affiliated with Hershey :)?
Yahtzee went 1-3 in 5 games with the Caps. He got his only NHL win on March 30, 2004 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Gotta give him that.
During the 03/04 campaign, Caps goaltending consisted of: Olie Kolzig, Yeats, Ouellet, Rastislav Stana, and Sebastien Charpentier. Only Kolzig appeared in more than 7 games (63).
According to hockeydb.com, Yeats played 3 more seasons in the ECHL and one season in Denmark. Besides Kolzig, only Maxime Ouellet with his four games with Vancouver in 05/06 caught a whiff of the NHL thereafter.
I would now like to praise God, Ted-dog, and McPhee for the Neuvirth, the Varlamov, and the Holtby.
